Capturing Ireland’s Atlantic Coast

Despite Ireland being so close geographically to the rest of the UK until the team I work with designed a photography holiday to Ireland’s west coast I had never had an excuse to get there. For the last two years I have been leading a 9-day itinerary starting from Shannon and exploring some of Ireland’s gems from its rugged and wild coastline to the more mountainous Killarney National Park. We take in two island destinations, Inisheer, which is most well known for being home to the shipwreck that featured in the opening credits of Father Ted (a very British comedy if you’ve not seen it before), followed by Great Blaskett. The Blaskett Isles remind me so much of St Kilda, the remotest island in Scotland, and another destination I help lead photo holidays too. Great Blaskett has the advantage of being a much shorter boat ride, and is also home to some amazing wildlife too with 2,000 grey seals hauling out on its main beach each day, and beautiful Irish hares hopping around.
