When the weather on Skye is looking good and it coincides with a bit of my free time I try to make the most of it. With that in mind I made an impulsive decision to head up onto the Trotternish Ridge in the north of Skye for an overnight camp to photograph the sunrise. At the same time I decided to try and make my first foray into the world of vlogging - see my effort below!
I was on one of the most isolated parts of the ridge and it was lovely to have the whole place to myself. I woke up at 3.15am to the sound of birdsong and squabbling cuckoos, which flew round and round me in circles once I dragged myself out of my toasty warm sleeping bag. The conditions were almost perfect with a layer of thin cloud above the mountains and a nice clear eastern horizon. The colour that flooded the sky as the sun came up was astonishing, in the moment I was completely focussed on capturing this fleeting beauty but after it had faded and the sun came up I let out a ringing "Woohoo" which echoed around the cliffs.
Not a bad view
This was the first I'd spent sunrise on this section of the ridge so I treated the trip as a rece - if the weather looks good again maybe I'll head back soon.
